This 60-minute webinar will explore criminal and civil animal abandonment issues in Ohio and how, in many cases, criminal and civil abandonment intersect. This course is intended only for humane society agents, municipal or township animal control officers, dog wardens, police officers, or sheriffs. DanaMarie Pannella, attorney in the firm of Holland & Muirden and appointed prosecutor for animal cruelty cases in many courts across Ohio, will discuss:

  • How to identify abandonment cases and differentiate between criminal abandonment and civil disputes, including landlord-tenant issues, boarding kennels, arrests, and more;
  • Understanding law enforcement's role in abandonment cases; and
  • Strategies for investigating and managing criminal and civil abandonment issues.
