Saving Lives in Shelters and Foster Homes

Speaker: Dr. Allison Lash, DVM, Medical Director at the Cleveland Animal Protective League

June 17, 2025

12:00 - 1:00 p.m. on Zoom

From isolation wards to living rooms, learn how to treat and manage parvovirus and panleukopenia in shelters and foster homes. We’ll cover the importance of early recognition and ongoing monitoring to improve outcomes and reduce suffering. We will also explore the Carvo program, proving that outpatient Parvo care isn’t just possible—it’s lifesaving.

ABOUT DR. LASH

Dr. Allison Lash is the Medical Director at the Cleveland Animal Protective League, where she has worked for the past 17 years.  In her role, she oversees the medical and surgical care of more than 18,000 animals each year, including those coming through intake, adoption, humane investigations, and community programs.

The Cleveland APL is a managed admission shelter serving the people and animals of Cuyahoga County. Under Dr. Lash’s leadership, the organization has expanded its reach to include Project CARE, a progressive outreach initiative that provides veterinary care for pets owned by people with limited resources, and a Community Pet Clinic offering accessible outpatient services.

Dr. Lash brings a wealth of experience from working with shelters and rescues of all sizes, as well as from her years in private practice and emergency medicine. She is especially passionate about expanding access to care, encouraging self-care and work-life balance within the veterinary profession, and training the next generation of veterinarians.

She currently serves as Chair of the Shelter Education Committee for the Midwest Veterinary Conference and sits on the Board of Directors for the Ohio Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Lash lives in Massillon with her 13-year-old twin son and daughter, and six, moderately behaved, indoor/outdoor cats.
