This webinar will focus on preventing diseases that can be transmitted from animals to people, potentially infecting shelter staff, volunteers, and adopters. You will learn methods important for reducing the risk of these diseases as well as when to use them. Zoonotic diseases most often seen in the shelter or foster environment will be introduced along with information that can help identify animals that might be infected.

SPEAKER

Dr. O’Quin earned her doctor of veterinary medicine and master of public health degrees from the Ohio State Universities. Much of her career has been spent working in animal shelter medicine. She is a co-author of the ASV guidelines for standards of care in shelters and is editor for the revision of this document, which is due to be released in 2022. She spent 5 years working as a public health veterinarian for the Ohio Department of Health. For the last 10 years she has been employed by the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine where she teaches shelter medicine, veterinary forensics and veterinary public health. Dr. O’Quin lives with her 3 children, 2 cats, and 1 very spoiled puppy.

  • $30 per organization for non-members with 1-5 program participants 

  • $40 per organization for non-members with 6+ program participants
