An Overview of Ohio Sunshine Laws

Let the sunshine in! This training will focus on the Ohio Sunshine Laws and how these statutes apply to records of humane societies and animal shelters. The session will discuss public records requests under Ohio Revised Code Section 149.43 and new changes to Ohio Revised Code Section 1717.16.  Specific topics will include redacting documents, confidential law enforcement investigatory records, public records policies, and how to dispose of records. Templates and helpful links will be provided with the PowerPoint presentation.

SPEAKER

Caroline Clippinger currently serves as an assistant director of law for the City of Newark. Caroline’s primary role is in the civil division, advising city officials about legal matters and all public records issues. As part of her job duties, she also prosecutes misdemeanor criminal cases, including cases involving animal cruelty. She is a graduate of Capital University Law School, and is admitted to practice in both the Ohio Bar and the U.S. District Court for Southern Ohio. Caroline is a member of the Licking County Bar Association, assists with the local mock trial program, and is part of the Licking County Humane Society’s fundraising committee for various events. When she isn’t catering to her dog’s every whim, she enjoys reading, baking, and being a history nerd.

REGISTRATION FEE

  • $20 per organization for Ohio Fedmembers with 1-5 program participants 

  • $30 per organization for Ohio Fedmembers with 6+ program participants 

  • $30 per organization for non-members with 1-5 program participants 

  • $40 per organization for non-members with 6+ program participants
