ADVOCACY UPDATE

SB 164 ASSIGNED TO HOUSE COMMITTEE; GETS FIRST HEARING

SB 164 seeks to designate the most egregious felony and first-degree misdemeanor animal cruelty offenses as “violent offenses" and ban the use of gas chambers to euthanize domestic animals.

Click here to read SB 164

On November 29, OAWF Board President Sharon Harvey from the Cleveland Animal Protective League and Past-president Lori Carlson from the Licking County Humane Society joined Senator Jay Hottinger and other friends to provide proponent testimony in the House Agriculture and Conservation Committee on SB 164, a bill that seeks to strengthen Ohio law on the most egregious forms of animal cruelty and ban the antiquated use of the gas chamber to euthanize domestic animals. We are hopeful that this bill, which passed the Senate unanimously in June, will pass the House during this short legislative session.

Member Benefit: If members would like to receive legislative updates as they happen, please email ohiofedhs@gmail.com and ask to be added to the list for advocacy alerts.
