Successfully Navigating the Probable Cause

or "10-Day" Hearing

Speaker: DanaMarie Pannella with Holland & Muirden, Attorneys at Law

August 25, 2022

11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Zoom

This 1.5 hour interactive webinar will provide information about Ohio’s animal seizure hearing law, Ohio Revised Code Section 959.132. R.C. 959.132, which is commonly referred to as the “care bond”, “ten day” or “probable cause” hearing, is the initial court process in most animal cruelty cases. This webinar is intended only for officers who are authorized under R.C. 959.132, specifically humane society agents, municipal or township animal control officers, police officers, or sheriffs. DanaMarie Pannella, attorney in the firm of Holland & Muirden and appointed prosecutor for animal cruelty cases in many courts across Ohio, will conduct a mock R.C. 959.132 hearing and discuss these topics:

  • The duties imposed on officers by R.C. 959.132 and when notice is necessary;
  • How to initiate the R.C. 959.132 process, including sample notices and pleadings;
  • Preparing for an R.C. 959.132 hearing;
  • Testifying at an R.C. 959.132 hearing.
