How to Manage Leadership Succession

June 24, 2021

5:30 - 7:00 p.m. on Zoom

ABOUT

Leadership succession is inevitable. Every non-profit leader leaves their position eventually. It’s just a matter of whenhow, and how well managed the transition is when the change does occur.

This session will cover the entire succession process, from planning to cover unexpected absences to managing the transition when the leader decides to leave the role.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

Executive directors and board members (ideally the ED plus a board leader).

HERE'S WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:

  • The three types of succession plans and how and when to use them.

  • The board’s six tasks for managing an executive transition well.

  • Low- and no-cost ways to grow your own leaders and groom internal successors.

  • Strategies to ensure board leadership continuity.

Bonus “Succession Essentials” templates and guide!

Registrants will receive:

  • Fill-in-the-blank templates for a board-adopted succession policy and an executive backup plan. (Essential tools every nonprofit should have.)

  • A step-by-step guide to help you tailor the policy and plan to your organization’s specific needs.
