What is Planned Giving?

Planned giving, or legacy giving, is a way to support non-profits that enable philanthropic individuals to make larger gifts than they could make from ordinary income. Some planned gifts provide life-long income to donors. Other gift plans use estate and tax planning to provide for charity and heirs in ways that maximize the gift and/or minimize its impact. Thus, by definition, a planned gift is any major gift, made in lifetime or at death as part of a donor’s overall financial and/or estate planning.

About our speaker:

Lori Carlson has been the Executive Director of the Licking County Humane Society since 2011. She led the shelter through a $1,250,000 Capital Campaign to build a new shelter between 2010-2013; eventually moving the society from a small rundown building to a vastly improved and larger facility. Since that time, the organization has grown by leaps and bounds, with adoption rates up 890% in 10 years and many new programs serving 5,000 animals and 10,000 people per year. LCHS was selected as the Licking County Chamber of Commerce’s Nonprofit of the year in 2012 and the Newark Advocate’s Best Non Profit in Licking County in 2015, 2016 & 2017. The organization is now operating a Capital Campaign to raise $2 million dollars to expand the shelter.

Lori also serves as the Board President for the Ohio Animal Welfare Federation.

Lori grew up in Lancaster, OH but has lived in Licking County for 25 years. Lori is married and has 2 adult children. She has 4 rescue dogs, despite her husband's 3-dog limit.
